In 1870 the American army adopted its first ever standard issue 0.44 Cal cartridge firing revolver. Most military pistols up to that point were black powder weapons.
Five years later in 1875 major George Schofield improved the pistol by making a locking mechanism that made it easier to load for a cavalry soldier.
This pistol pays homage to the original Scofield pistols of the 1870s.
